Monday 31st August - bike **** - Felixstowe circuit including lunch at Falkenham Church – mainly cloudy.

After two full on foiling sessions on the River Stour at Bradfield with early starts we decided to take it easy today and have a lay in:) Woke to a nice sunny day here in Felixstowe so after breakfast did my exercises in the back garden. Then as it was sunny and warm, we decided to make a salad and bike over to visit ‘Emily’ at Falkenham Church but by the time we were ready it had clouded over so Mag was pleased she had her ski coat on! As it is Bank Holiday Monday the seafront is best avoided so we headed inland, past The Grove park, onto Marsh Lane to Kings Fleet. We take the farm track up to Falkenham and we were told that there was a small field of sun flowers if we took the footpath to the left when you re-join the tarmac road. There was a no cycling sign so we left our bikes behind the hedge and started to walk across the fields with no sunflowers in sight! We got to a large field of red onions where we meet another couple who told us where the flowers were! At the end of the field we turn left into a lovely little wood with some ponds coming out by a small farm reservoir where we scared and feeding Egret off. We then found the sunflowers which several were in bloom:) As they were all facing the other way, we walked through the middle of the sunflowers which had been planted to feed birds in the winter when the heads go to seed. Several birds took off as we walked including a yellow hammer and we spotted a Muntjac deer:) It was lovely in the sunflowers and we then retraced our steps hoping our bikes were still there! Back at the bikes it was just a short trip to our seat at Falkenham Church for our yummy lunch watching the odd yacht slowly moving on the River Deben below. It was a bit nippy to stay too long so we headed back on our usual bridle ways and footpaths back to Felixstowe in time to watch Tenable and Tipping Point, sad I know!
